Paul Marcus of S&P Global on adapting after M&A and harnessing the power of AI

At the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2024, we caught up with Paul Marcus, director of business development at New-York headquartered capital markets intelligence firm S&P Global.

Asked what characterized the past year at his company, Marcus cites ‘change’. He delves into the challenges of adapting to change within a new business, particularly after an acquisition or merger.

He refers to two big corporate transactions that saw Ipreo – a firm where he worked for nearly two decades as a sales executive – being acquired by IHS Markit, which is now also part of S&P Global.

Looking ahead, Marcus highlights that AI will be a major priority for S&P Global. The company recognized the promise of AI-driven technologies early on in 2018 through the acquisition of Kensho, a leading provider of advanced analytics and data-visualization systems, and remains committed to evolving and leveraging these tools.
